The length of the male is about 90 cm and for the females it is about 60 cm (including the tail.) The span of the wings is about 70-90 cm. The weight is about 40-46 oz for the males and 30-34 oz for the females.

Males are highly territorial; the successful ones possess a few acres and defend it from intruders in heated battles. The Argus type bird has a very interesting mating ritual.
